Dear caring people, one of our youth team member, Nathan Jiang, participated in the “Africa Cries Out” medical/surgical mission for the first time in March last year. He witnessed first-hand the plight of African patients who lack resources for proper health care. When he returned to the United States, he began to actively work part-time, and advocated for the African patients to their church, relatives, and friends. Through his efforts, he raised $20,800. He then used the funds to purchase two ultrasound machines, one of which was donated to the Fatick Regional Hospital in Senegal. Another ultrasound machine will soon be donated to the base hospital of Africa Cries Out.

This year, the Africa Cries Out surgical team stationed-in at the Fatick Regional Hospital in Fatick, Senegal, two hour-drive from Dakar, has completed 14 operations in the first week, working a total of 60 hours.

The Africa Cries Out surgical team needs to pay US$200 to the hospital for each operation that they perform at the hospital, aside from the unexpected $100 more to purchase each patient’s surgical supply kit. This is because the patients we serve are all very poor and have no financial capabilities; Africa Cries Out decided to shoulder all the medical expenses of the patients.

Motivated by Nathan’s act of kindness, we created a “dedicated donation to a patient” program, and we urge our young people to participate. You can “adopt” a patient where your donation will go. We are looking forward to next year’s surgical mission, and our goal in surgical operations is to treat 60 patients. I hope everyone can emulate Nathan by taking part-time work to make money for donations, and by inviting relatives and friends to share in the program! We strive to have each participant’s donation dedicated to at least one patient, and the number of patients you can donate to will be based on the “first come first serve” basis. After the donated funds are all in place, the “Africa Cries Out” team will issue a donation certificate.

We will also launch special donation-for-patients recognition plans from time to time to raise money for their medical expenses, so stay tuned!
