Africa Cries Out Report 2023005 We treated 539 patients today
Author Xu Jun, March 18, 2023
Today was the first day, and our team split into four small groups to begin providing services to local patients.
The first group stayed at the base. Patients started queuing up in the hot weather from six o’clock in the morning. This hot weather brought a fiery passion to everyone.
The second group went to a village. Originally, the plan was for the third group to go to the village, but due to unforeseen circumstances, several doctors from the third group were still on a plane heading here. We had to temporarily mobilize doctors from the first and second groups. Fortunately, there are many doctors this year, so the adjustment went smoothly.
The gynecology team went to the hospital today to examine patients, and familiarize themselves with the operating room. Dr. Jiang and Dr. Rebecca Wu communicate with local doctors, screen patients, and hand them over to the operating room nurses. Anesthesia doctors He Cong and Zhao Rong checked the anesthesia equipment, as well as the emergency response plans during surgery. Everything was ready, only waiting for Monday to begin the operations.
The dental team arrived in the morning and immediately began screening patients in the afternoon. Many patients have never seen a dentist before and only come when the situation becomes very serious. Dental doctors Ding and his wife preliminarily screened the patients, and they were preparing to do fillings for them on Monday.
Some highlights:
The morning glow emitted white light in the blue sky, and groups of patients sat in the courtyard of the base hospital, waiting for us to start the clinic.
After some adjustments, each doctor found their place and began a day of passionate service.
Our children played an irreplaceable role in the free clinic as well.
Take temperature
Measure blood pressure. Guess who is the youngest volunteer and their age?
The children also helped the pharmacist dispense medication
Rachel Li is following her mother Dr. Chen Huiyi for a medical consultation (look how serious she is!)
Saying goodbye to the patients on the first day at the entrance of the deserted village
Dr. Peng is a talented member of our team who is responsible for triaging patients at the entrance and referring them to other medical specialists.
The gynecology team has examined 14 patients, and 10 of them meet the surgical indications. All the preparations have been made at the hospital, and they are just waiting for the surgeries to begin on Monday.
Dr. Ding and his wife, who are dentists, just got off the plane this morning. Despite their exhaustion, they enthusiastically began working in the afternoon.
Professor Zhang Leng and his student Zeena from the film department of the State University of New York conducted interviews with many villagers and volunteers. Despite exhaustion, they remained committed and sat on the ground without complaint.
After a day of hard work, we provided medical treatment for more than 300 patients at the base and 237 patients in the village, successfully completing today’s mission.
As an extra highlight, Dr. Zhao Zhuangzhi and his family arrived at the base after a 40-hour flight. Our big family is finally reunited!
Dr. Zhao’s family and customs officer Alain Sambou
The gentleman on the right, Alain Sambou, is a customs officer, our friend. He helped us to deal with many customs procedures and allowed us to smoothly import drugs worth over 700,000 US dollars. We are extremely grateful to him!
We are looking for volunteer service providers with video editing skills to join our team. If you are willing to contribute to the development of African humanitarian work, please contact us.
