Africa Cries Out Report 2023 001 Your new shoes, old computer and phone are needed – 2023 West Africa trip

Author Xu Jun, January 07, 2023

African Cries Out thanks everyone for their support and participation. This year, the number of people going to Senegal for the charity medical team greatly exceeded expectations, with over 80 people signing up. We will start our service in Senegal from March 16 to March 26 this year.

Our medical team is divided into four groups this year. The first and second groups are the general internal medicine group, including experts in internal medicine, pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, pain and rehabilitation, acupuncture, etc. We will go to various jungle villages and treat villagers on the wild grasslands. We will also adopt the method of “teaching by doing” and let Chinese doctors and parents show the medical knowledge and attitude learned in the United States to our children, and perhaps a few children will choose the noble profession of doctor. Last year, most of the children in our team had already chosen medicine. When I asked them this year, none of them changed their minds. Practice is better than theory. I hope our colleagues will join our team, give roses, and leave a fragrance. Going to Africa to serve not only sends out love, but also may make your children choose a career of serving others. Please read our articles from last year to see what kind of education and inspiration our children will receive.

Our third group is gynecology. We have two gynecologists and two anesthesiology experts who will perform gynecological surgery at the Dakar Hospital. They will also teach local medical students and residents there. Imagining not only doing surgery there, but also leaving behind the technology, the satisfaction is indescribable.

Our fourth group is dentistry. Our dentists will treat patients at the African Cries Out base hospital and do basic dental surgery for them. Many African patients have never received dental care and treatment in their lives, and this will be a brand new experience for them.

Our youth team will also receive strict semi-military training. They will prepare medications under the guidance of pharmacists, register patients under the guidance of professionals, and go deep into the jungle grasslands to deliver food, care for others, witness poverty, and inspire love.

Our youth team has already started action, and we also need your support. We need the following materials, and your support will have a huge encouragement for our children. Please help us prepare:

  1. Sneakers and slippers that are 90% new or above, all sizes are needed. In West Africa, most children go barefoot and play soccer barefoot every day, but their soccer has entered the top 18 of the World Cup. One day, Dr. Li Baoqing’s son Joshua played a game with them and started collecting shoes to give to them after returning. Let’s help Senegal children, who are so passionate about soccer, making their dream come true.

These are the shoes we gave them in 2022.

Today, Mr. Nielsen, on behalf of the African Cries Out team, accepted 1,000 pairs of slippers collected by youth Kyle Ni in his spare time. Kyle made countless phone calls and approached many companies, and finally, one company was willing to donate.

  1. Old phones and computers, many of our parents work in IT and large companies, and they have to change computers and phones every few years. Could you and your company talk to us and send us the replaced computers and phones? We can provide tax-exempt certificates approved by the Internal Revenue Service. We need you to delete the information on the phones and computers and send us the chargers and phones and computers. Our children will give these to excellent students at technical schools, so they can feel the care and encouragement from the United States.

In 2022, our youth donated many old phones and computers. If you find usable old phones and computers, please mail them to Jun Xu, MD, 1171 E Putnam Avenue, Building 1, Riverside, CT 06878

My dear colleagues and friends, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Love as vast as the ocean can be expressed in the smallest stream. Let’s join our children, bringing love and hope to the African people, benefiting both ourselves and others. Action speaks louder than words. Let’s start now!
